How To Enroll At Seeds During COVID-19

Registration. Orientation. Enrollment.

At Seeds, those words essentially mean the same thing – to get you into the FREE tutoring program and on the path to earning your high school equivalency (GED® or HiSET®).

During COVID-19, we’ve had to close our classrooms. Fortunately, tutoring continues remotely for our current students by phone and video conference. But if the classrooms are closed, is Seeds of Literacy still accepting students?

YES. YOU CAN BECOME A STUDENT AT SEEDS OF LITERACY – EVEN DURING OUR COVID-19 CLOSURE. It’s still as easy as ever to start your high school equivalency journey at Seeds.

STEP 1

Email our Vice President of Programming to let her know you want to be a student. CarmineStewart@seedsofliteracy.org

STEP 2

Carmine will send you an email providing dates, times, and an access code to join her on a video conference for new student orientation.

Weekly Orientations During COVID-19

  • Mondays
  • 1pm OR 6pm (choose the one that works best for you)

Pick the time that works best for you and then join the video conference from your computer, tablet, or smartphone.

STEP 3

Join the meeting at the time you selected. https://global.gotomeeting.com/join/935553821

During the videoconference, Carmine will tell you and other potential students about Seeds of Literacy. She’ll cover what makes Seeds unique, as well as how we have had to adapt our program during the pandemic. Then she’ll tell you how to access our tele-tutoring and video tutoring offerings.

STEP 4

During orientation, you will be asked to schedule a super simple reading test. You will be asked to read out loud for 60 seconds. That’s all Seeds needs to determine your reading level.

STEP 5

You will talk with Carmine about how to start FREE tutoring.

Once you’ve completed these 5 steps, you are now a provisional student at Seeds of Literacy! You can participate in as many tutoring sessions as you’d like, Monday through Thursday, or practice on your own by watching one of our recorded lessons (more are added each week!)

After it’s safe to return to our classrooms, you will be asked to take the TABE – Test of Adult Basic Education. Don’t worry, this is not a pass or fail test. This test simply helps us assign you work based on your progress so far.
