Seeds Grad Margo Hudson Gives Pledge of Allegiance at RNC

Where can adult education take you? How about to the stage of the Republican National Convention?

That’s where Margo Hudson, a Seeds of Literacy GED® graduate and current volunteer tutor, proudly stood on July 20th, the third night of the Republican National Convention in Cleveland.

Since earning her GED credential with Seeds of Literacy in 2012, Margo has continued to learn everything she can, while being a vocal advocate for adult literacy and ambassador for the Seeds of Literacy program. For her remarkable persistence in life and education, the RNC Host Committee chose Margo to give the Pledge of Allegiance at this historic event for both Cleveland and the Republican party.

Participating in the RNC is just the latest of Margo’s accomplishments: earlier this year, Margo was recognized with the Outstanding Adult Learner of the Year Award from the Commission on Adult Basic Education and the Courage Award from Ohio Governor John Kasich.

This was a great honor for Margo, a proud moment for Seeds of Literacy, and an important gesture because everyone — Republican, Democrat, and otherwise — must be at the table to increase adult literacy.

“We all benefit from having a GED diploma,” said Margo behind-the-scenes last night. “It opened up a whole new world for me, and I know it would open a whole new world for others.”
