OGT as Requirement for High School Graduation to be Replaced in 2022

NEW INFORMATION: 8/25/2021

If you or someone you know has completed high school but has NOT passed all 5 sections of their OGT test, time is running out!  Next summer (June 30, 2022), the OGT will be discontinued, leaving students with fewer options if they wish to earn a high school diploma or equivalency. The clock is ticking for those students who want to complete the steps to earn their high school diplomas.  If you are over 18 and would like free tutoring to help prepare you for the test, please contact Seeds of Literacy at 216-661-7960 to register.

Seeds of Literacy offers FREE one-to-one tutoring to adults aged 18 and over. Tutoring sessions are conducted at Seeds East (Kinsman & East 139th) or Seeds West (W.25th & Clark) in Cleveland for vaccinated students. A Virtual Classroom is also available. Open enrollment allows new students to enroll each week. The program is flexible — students can work with tutors as often as their schedules allow without an appointment. Tutors are available Mondays through Thursdays, 3 times a day (mornings 9am-11am, afternoons 1pm-3pm, and evenings 6pm – 8pm). Free tutoring is ongoing, so students can work with tutors as long as they need, whether that’s a few weeks, a few months, or a year or more.

If you are ready to take the test, the next test session is September 21!  The test is being offered to Cleveland residents who are former CMSD students who pre-register for the test.

The test is offered at the East Side Professional Development Center (Formerly East High School) at 1349 East 79th Street.  Walk-ins are not accepted; you must register in advance.

Register online using this link: https://bit.ly/3giYV4i  and complete all sections of the form.

Tests are scheduled between 9:00am and 5:00pm.  Test time slots are 8:30 am to noon, and 1:00pm to 4:30pm.

If you register for the test you will get (1) a confirmation after completing the form, (2) an email directly from someone on the Assessment staff, and (3) a follow-up call reminder for testing.

The next test dates will be on November 16, 2021, and February 15, 2022.

Time is running out for adults who have not yet completed all 5 sections of the Ohio Graduation Test (OGT).

WHAT IS THE OGT?

The OGT is a test required for a high school diploma for Ohio students who started 9th grade between 2004 and 2014.

WHAT IS HAPPENING?

Next summer (June 30, 2022), the OGT will be discontinued, leaving students with fewer options if they wish to earn a high school diploma or equivalency. The clock is ticking for those students who want to complete the steps to earn their high school diplomas.

WHAT ARE THE ALTERNATIVE TESTS?

  • End of Course exam
  • GED

“We get so many calls from students who are seeking a GED because they were not able to pass the OGT,” said Dr. Carmine Stewart, Vice President of Programming at Seeds of Literacy. “Many of them have just one section to pass, but I don’t think any of those students realize that the OGT is going away. They definitely don’t know that the end-of-course exams and the GED tests are both more difficult.”

“This is a great opportunity for students to come get the one-to-one help they need to pass the OGT before it goes away. Not testing is a barrier to continuing their education and it’s preventing them from getting jobs that pay better wages,” she continued.

The time is NOW for students to take the remaining sections of the OGT. Seeds of Literacy can help students aged 18 and older prepare and hustle to the nearest testing center before it’s too late.

Seeds of Literacy can also help students who are unable (or unqualified) to complete the OGT with obtaining a GED or other high school equivalent.
