10th Annual Benefit Brunch to Support Seeds of Literacy

September 20, 2010

Cleveland, OH, September 20, 2010—- Seeds of Literacy will hold its 10th annual fall fundraiser, Sowing Seeds of Hope, on Sunday, October 24th, 2010 from 11 am to 2 pm at the Hilton Garden Inn, 1100 Carnegie Avenue, just east of Progressive Field. Councilman Joe Cimperman will serve as the Honorary Chairperson, and brunch will be accompanied by a silent auction, raffle baskets, and student speakers. Single tickets start at $40; tables for four and eight start at $500 and include program listings. All tickets are tax deductible.

Proceeds benefit Seeds of Literacy, a nonprofit organization providing free, one-to-one tutoring in basic education and GED testing to adults in Cuyahoga County. Seeds is the only adult literacy program in Cuyahoga County with national accreditation, and has student retention and graduation rates that are twice the national average.

“Community support helps our students break the cycle of functional illiteracy,“ notes Bonnie Entler, Executive Director. “This year, we served over 1,000 dedicated students with the invaluable assistance of about 200 volunteer tutors. With a 69% illiteracy rate in Cleveland, our services are in great demand. Program enrollment increases yearly and the economy continues to be a challenge.“ Seeds of Literacy is funded through foundation grants, individual donors, and fundraising events.

Sowing Seeds of Hope will feature a delicious brunch of scrambled eggs, muffins, pasta, chicken, dessert and more; a variety of silent auction items, surprise grab bags and raffle baskets round out the event. Auctions from previous years have included vacation getaways, handcrafted art, restaurant and spa gift certificates, books and gifts.

Event sponsors include Benesch, Friedlander, Coplan & Aronoff, LLP; Shur Tech Brands, LLC; Hengst, Streff, Bajko Architects + Engineers; and VOSS Industries. Additional sponsorship opportunities are still available.
