Make A Difference: Tutor for Seeds of Literacy

August 22, 2010

Cleveland, OH, September 18, 2010—- Help our students change their lives: volunteer as a tutor for Seeds of Literacy (www.seedsofliteracy.org), a nonprofit organization providing free, one-to-one-tutoring in basic education and GED preparation to adults in Cuyahoga County. The next tutor training session will be held on Saturday, November 6th, from 9:00 to 2:00 pm at the Seeds Resource Center, 3104 West 25th Street (corner of West 25th and Clark Avenue), 3rd floor, Cleveland, Ohio 44109.

Last year, a roster of nearly 200 volunteers assisted 1,000 students. Tutors work individually with students on reading, writing and math skills, offer encouragement and support, and help students develop confidence and positive attitudes about learning.
All tutors are required to attend only one tutor training session; no teaching experience is necessary. More than half of the Seeds of Literacy tutors have been volunteering for more than 5 years. Once training is complete, tutors make a time commitment of one tutoring session per week for one year. Each tutoring session lasts 2 hours, and may be scheduled during the day or evening, depending on personal preference.
