Seeds of Literacy Student Writing Featured

Cleveland, OH, April 13, 2010—- Seeds of Literacy, a nonprofit organization providing free, one-to-one tutoring in basic education and GED preparation to adults in Cuyahoga County, congratulates students Edna Goodwin, Maria Rodriguez, and Julian Reynolds on the acceptance of their work to the National Gallery of Writing, an online writing project sponsored by the National Council of Teachers of English.

Hurt, a poem by Ms. Goodwin, We’ve Come This Far By Faith, a poem by Mr. Reynolds, and Ms. Rodriguez’s essay, “Going Back to School After Thirty-Five Years” are showcased in the ProLiteracy Gallery, found at http://www.galleryofwriting.org/galleries/proliteracy_gallery_adult_learning_and_teaching.

“We are very proud of Ms. Goodwin, Ms. Rodriguez, and Mr. Reynolds,“ states Bonnie Entler, Executive Director of Seeds of Literacy. “It’s exciting that their diligent work and willingness to share their creativity have resulted in this honor.“ The ProLiteracy Gallery features writing by adult learners, their teachers and tutors. Submissions are chosen by a committee of eight curators who are affiliated with ProLiteracy, an international adult literacy organization.

Seeds of Literacy is a nonprofit, 501(C)3 organization providing personalized education that empowers adults to succeed in their communities. It is the only adult literacy organization in Cuyahoga County to be nationally accredited by ProLiteracy America. Save the Date: Strike Out Illiteracy!

Seeds of Literacy will hold its second annual Bowl-A-Thon on Friday, May 14, 2010 from 8 – 11 pm at Fairview Lanes, 21847 Lorain Road, Fairview Park, Ohio. Three hours of non-competitive bowling, shoe rental, food, and music promise an evening of good fun for a good cause. Cash bar available. Cost is $25 per person plus pledges. All proceeds benefit Seeds of Literacy, a nonprofit organization providing free, one-to-one tutoring in basic education and GED testing to adults in Cuyahoga County. Seeds has student retention and graduation rates that are twice the national average and is the only adult literacy program in the county to be nationally accredited by ProLiteracy America.
